Comics Continuum host Jordan Torvillion and Rob M. Worley

Scratch9 and writer/creator Rob M. Worley were featured on the August 21st episode of the Comics Continuum TV show (broadcasting in the Detroit area on MyTV 20, Saturdays at 1:30pm). Host Jordan Trovillion quizzes Robbo about the new comic!

Update: We’re told that this episode of Comics Continuum will air on Clear Cable Channel 22 in Wooster, Ohio on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at noon and on Saturday and Monday at 6 p.m.

Scratch9 creator Rob M. Worley spoke to journalist Chuck O’Donnell who wrote a fantastic profile article for The Oakland Press. The piece delves into Robbo’s motivation for creating a comic book for kids featuring a super-powered cat!

Here’s an excerpt:

But in the end, “Scratch9” comes from Worley’s heart — and his love for Itchy and Scratchy.

“I wanted Scratch’s personality to reflect how I saw my own cats’ personalities,” he said. “The real Scratchy wasn’t lazy or sardonic like Garfield, or irritable like other animated cats. He always struck me as a bright, good-natured soul. His brother, Itchy, was a bit more of a rascal. So you see both of those personalities in our hero.”

Toni purchased our last copy of Scratch9 #1 at Wizard Chicago

Guardians for Animals and the Madison Heights Animal Shelter joined us, and Reggie the cat was there as our guest of honor!

Copies of Issue #1 sold like hot cakes (and we think hot cakes probably sell really well although we’re not sure why). We also raised enough money for the Madison Heights Animal Shelter to feed eight shelter cats for a month. Best of all Reggie may have found a home with one of the comic-and-cat-loving folks who stopped by!

A big thanks to all the people who showed up to check out our funnybook! We had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

Scratch9 creator Rob M. Worley will be on hand with copies of the first issue of the comic and another new exclusive postcard available to anyone donating to one of the shelters attending the event.

Many local area animal rescues will have adoptable dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, pocket pets, rabbits and birds available for adoption during the two-day event.

Attendees not looking to adopt at this time are invited to bring their leashed pets and family members to enjoy the festivities!

Activities will include:

•  Demonstrations by the Madison Heights Police K-9s and Ruff Troops
•  Vendor Village for economical pet supply shopping
•  Best Dressed Pet Contest
•  Silliest Pet Trick Contest
•  Most Talented Song/Dance Contest
•  Pet/Human Look Alike Contest

Additionally, to help increase awareness on keeping their pets safe, healthy and happy, attendees will have the opportunity to talk with veterinarians, grooming and boarding professionals and sample healthy treats and foods.

It’s broad cat comedy, with lots of silliness and groan-inducing acronyms, but it’s not trying to be anything other than that. So it works. It looks like we’ll be getting some comedic anthropomorphic adventure coming our way, and I’m always game for that.
